KURAMA OR MOONSTONE

The name of Kurama comes from the Kuramagawa river that is located near Kyoto, in this river a vein of ferruginous granite was formed in which these famous stones took place.

The blocks of these stones (kuramaishi), usually were in the form of flat or curved strata, when separated they gave rise to various forms that often remind us of the different lunar cycles such as Mikazuki, (waning quarter). But perhaps the most frequent of them is that of Funagata (boat shape), widely used for bonsai of inclined style. And the kurama of flatter forms, very suitable for the formation of forests.

Among the kinds of kuramas there is another variety called (Kurokurama), black in color, which are used for the Suiseki and Ikewana.
